Edwards and O'Neil represent the initial names in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolves.

Pereira was sacked on the weekend following the squad's ten-game without a victory start to the top-flight season.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic links to the team - are among the names to be considered by the Wolves ownership.

The manager is presently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a potential hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.

Nevertheless the former Luton Town head coach - who played more than 100 of appearances for Wolves during his playing career - is considered a leading candidate for the position.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the Wolves board as they begin the process of hiring a new manager.

O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a shock choice considering he was sacked by the club in the previous winter.

The former West Ham United player is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not be required to pay any compensation.
